Paula Byrne nasceu na Inglaterra em 1967 e estudou na Universidade de Liverpool. É autora de várias biografias, como Mad World: Evelyn Waugh and the Secrets of Brideshead (2009) e Kick: The True Story of JFK’s Forgotten Sister and the Heir to Chatsworth (2016). Seu primeiro livro, Jane Austen and the Thea­tre (2002), foi relançado sob o título de The Genius of Jane Austen: Her Love of Theatre and Why She Works in Hollywood (2017).
